You worked very hard to gain entrance to college, and you’re there. But what’s next? Beginning college can be an exciting but awkward time. So your experience can be rewarding, here is some college advice.
You must study everyday to be successful. Don’t forget what college is really about! You need to spend at least a couple of hours a day to catch up on your studies and do some research. Always stick to your studying schedule. It helps set it as a habit.
Make good use of your campus library. You will find a great deal of resources available that will support your success. Get familiar with the library staff and they can help you immensely. Also, you can find used books for cheap on the bulletin boards at the library.
Don’t bring a lot of stuff with you if you are going to live in a dorm. There is not a lot of square feet in dorm rooms, so do not bring unnecessary items. Create a list filled with basics, and when you go shopping stick to those. Seek out designs that save space and offer compact solutions.
Do not be unrealistic with your goals when you schedule your classes and work. If you’re a night person, you will never succeed in attending early morning classes. You should know how your sleep schedule will affect your education.
Have a good supply of toiletries on hand. You will use a lot of these items and can run out if you do not have enough on hand. For the sake of economy, try to purchase in bulk.
Try to set your class schedule to your schedule. For example, if you’re more nocturnal, you should avoid a schedule that requires you to be up early every day. Choose classes scheduled in the late morning, afternoon or early evening instead.
Make sure you take time for breaks. Studying won’t be as effective if you overdo it. For each hour you devote to your studies, you should take a 15 minute break to refresh your brain. You should always stay with a schedule if you are in school.
It may take a little while to make new friends at college. You can be proactive by going to your class a little early on the first day. This lets you guide others who may be lost. This breaks the ice and makes for a good conversation starter.
If you are frustrated with school, give the program at least a year before you decide to try something else. When students first attend college, they get homesick or feel as though they made a mistake. At the end of the first year, if you still do not feel that the school is a good fit for you, you can consider going elsewhere.
Dating while in college should be about creativity rather than money. Skip the costly restaurant meal and light candles to give a home cooked meal a special touch. Also, you will be reducing an expense by playing this card. If you live with roommates, establish some rules. Then, when they want privacy, you can do the same.
You will want to squeeze every drop of goodness out of your years in college. After all, you didn’t just get here overnight. Your hard work and diligence paid off for you and will continue to do so as your progress. These suggestions can help you achieve that. Soon you will really be having a great time at college!
